CH3D-SSMS is a constantly evolving system for storm surge forecasting and hindcasting that has gone through many changes and improvements over the past year.
CH3D-SSMS is based on CH3D hydrodynamic model that uses a wide variety of boundary conditions and features coupling to SWAN wave model and large-scale ADCIRC model. CH3D-SSMS uses various winds for simulations such as HRD, NAM, WNA, GFDL and it's own synthetic wind model. Simulations can be triggered by NHC advisories.
Currently SSMS covers a large portion of Florida coastline featuring Biscayne Bay, Charlotte Harbor, East Coast of Florida, Tampa Bay and Lake Okeechobee domains as well as the Northern GOM domain.
Recently, a new GIS-based interactive web interface has been added to better suit user needs.
A sample SSMS website can be accessed here.
